CBRE has appointed well-known London investment agent James Beckham as Executive Director and Head of London Investment Properties.

Beckham is joining CBRE from Cushman & Wakefield where he was head of its London Capital Markets practice. Prior to joining Cushman & Wakefield in 2015, he established King Sturge’s City of London Capital Markets business in the late 1990s before the merger with JLL in 2011.

In his new role, Beckham will work closely with David Green, Chairman of CBRE London Investment Properties and with other senior members of the 40-strong London Investment Properties team including Stephen Pearson and James Hammond who lead CBRE’s Investment Properties teams in the City and the West End respectively; Peter Arduino who heads the Greater London Investment Properties team and with Chris Brett Head of CBRE’s International Capital Markets team in the UK.

With a successful career in investment agency spanning more than 30 years, Beckham has transacted some of the highest profile deals in the City of London on behalf of a broad range of clients including REITs, sovereign wealth funds and both private and institutional investors in the UK and internationally.

In the last year at Cushman & Wakefield Beckham has advised on over £3bn of deals in London for clients including British Land, AXA, M&G and LKK. These included the £1.15bn sale of The Leadenhall Building and the £1.3bn purchase of 20 Fenchurch Street - in what is the UK's largest single asset property deal.

CBRE’s Managing Director of London, Adam Hetherington said: “We always strive to give our clients a significant competitive advantage by delivering the best teams, expertise and market intelligence available from across our unrivalled global platform. As one of the most highly-respected investment agents in the London market, James will perfectly complement the strengths of our successful and established team and will help us to continue to deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients.”

George Roberts, Head of London Markets, Cushman & Wakefield, said: “We thank James for his significant contribution to the firm and the part he has played in our ongoing success in London’s investment market.

“Our Capital Markets strength lies in our established global platform which gives us an unrivalled ability to source capital from across the world. Our record-breaking success in London this year, including advising on the deals for 20 Fenchurch Street, The Leadenhall Building and the Ampersand – as well as many of the capital’s current key investment sales – would not have been possible without this global network and the depth of talent across the team.

“I’m delighted to confirm Martin Lay and Richard Womack, our heads of City and West End Capital Markets, have assumed joint responsibility for managing our 25-strong London Capital Markets team. Our London business is stronger than ever and our status as advisor of choice for both investors and occupiers is evident in the most significant transactions shaping real estate in London.”
