The CREFC Europe Autumn conference, the must-attend commercial property conference, opened today with a focus on change and innovation and with the announcement today that DRC’s Dale Lattanzio it sto be chairman, and Barry Fowler of Aviva Investors is to join CREFC Europe’s board of directors as chairman-elect.

500 delegates – both members and non-members – are attending the real estate lending industry trade body’s two-day event.

CREFC Europe’s Young Professionals in Real Estate Finance (YPREF) programme was held this morning. YPREF is aimed at engaging junior and mid-level property finance professionals with industry experts and useful content.

Kicking off at 14:00 today the Autumn conference showcases a forward-looking programme focused on disruption and innovation shaping the commercial real estate finance industry. A number of innovative new products will be showcased.

The event is being co-chaired by Delancey’s Lesley Chen Davison, Deutsche Bank’s Katie O’Neill and Clifford Chance’s Emma Matebalavu. Walk-in registration is available on site.

“We’re delighted that registrations have held up so well at what appears to be an extremely busy time in the market – a testament to the quality of the programme, no doubt,” said Carol Wilkie, managing director, CREFC Europe.

Separately, CREFC Europe has announced that Aviva Investors’ Barry Fowler will join its board of directors as the association’s new chairman-elect with effect from the start of CREFC Europe’s 2017 Autumn Conference.

At Aviva Investors, Fowler leads the alternative income solutions team, which invests on behalf of institutional investors such as insurance companies and pension schemes across a variety of sectors: unleveraged infrastructure, infrastructure debt, commercial real estate finance, private corporate loans and structured finance. He has eight years of experience in real estate finance having joined Aviva Investors in 2014, prior to which he was head of corporate real estate at Lloyds Banking Group.

Also at the Autumn conference, Dale Lattanzio, managing partner at DRC Capital, a leading debt fund, takes over as chairman of the association, succeeding Steve Willingham, HSBC’s head of real estate finance.

DRC Capital is a long-standing active member of CREFC Europe. Lattanzio has over 20 years of experience across real estate debt and capital markets having previously held a position as Managing Director at Duet Private Equity where he worked to create the real estate debt investment platform.

Lattanzio said: “I look forward to fulfilling my role as the incoming chairman and working with the Board and the broader membership to continue to build upon the value proposition for our members. This will include expanding our reach in terms of membership, education and leadership as Europe’s representative for the increasingly diverse universe of CRE lenders.”

CREFC Europe is focused on promoting the market and regulatory conditions in which everyone involved in real estate finance across Europe can thrive. While the association continues to represent the lending side, it had announced the creation of a new associate member class for property investors in 2018.

Barry Fowler, managing director for alternative income solutions at Aviva Investors, said: “CREFC Europe’s profile and its membership base have continued to grow – particularly as we are now welcoming members from across the investor base. We play an active role in representing our members across the industry and I’m looking forward to helping continue to shape the future of real estate finance in a period filled with innovation and disruption as well as a fair degree of political volatility.

“Despite a very active period in the market, we have achieved a high number of registrations to this year’s conference, underlining its position as the leading, must-attend industry event.”

Peter Cosmetatos, chief executive of CREFC Europe, said: “These remain exciting times for our industry, and our biggest event of the year offers the perfect opportunity for people to network, learn and exchange perspectives. I’m also delighted to have Barry Fowler on the leadership team, both as an individual and as a representative of the insurers that have become such an important part of the lending market.”

Dale Lattanzio, managing partner at DRC Capital, said: “Steve has done a fantastic job in his role as chairman for CREFC Europe, and I am honoured to follow him. Driving more understanding around real estate lending and its role in the wider economy is an exciting challenge at a time when disruption and innovation are changing the industry.”
